The Texas Supreme Court on Friday said the state could set a new execution date for a man convicted of murdering his toddler on evidence of "shaken baby syndrome," ruling that a legislative committee exceeded its authority in delaying the sentence.

Melissa Lucio was two days away from being put to death in Texas for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter when an appeals court intervened in 2022. Now, a judge says Lucio never committed the crime at all.

Texas lawmakers exceeded their power when they intervened last month to stop the execution of Robert Roberson by summoning him to testify, the court found.

Country singer Sundance Head, who won Season 11 of 'The Voice,' was injured by a stray bullet at his ranch in Texas on Friday, his agent said. Head, 46, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Tyler, where he was recovering after being stabilized, agent Trey Newman said in a statement.

The 46-year-old Houston native – whose name is Jason Head – was putting a gun away at his ranch when it "slipped out of the holster, hit the side of the jeep and discharged into his stomach area," his publicist said.
