Shalla-Bal, first seen in “The Silver Surfer” #1 in 1968, is the female counterpart to Norrin Radd, who was featured in 2007’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.” In that film, the humanoid alien was played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne.

With just two weeks to go until Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps bursts onto cinema screens, the studio has dropped a retro-style trailer to herald the IMAX aspects of the eagerly anticipated Phase Six launcher.

Set on an alternate, retro-futuristic Earth in the 1960s, “First Steps” follows the team as they take on Galactus and his herald, The Silver Surfer, who have selected the planet as the villain’s next meal. Will the team successfully use their otherworldly powers to save Earth’s inhabitants from destruction?

The release of the latest trailer for Fantastic Four evokes a feel-good, retro space-age vibe that complements the Man of Steel’s themes. The decision to set The Fantastic Four: First Steps in a retro, 1960s-inspired world couldn’t have come easy. For one, it meant the entire film would take place in a multiverse away from the traditional Marvel Cinematic Universe.
